Footsteps in My Garden

The poem I penned some time ago mentions footprints in my garden. I was actually referring to the castings in concrete mix of my grandson's footprints. The last time we made footprints was about six years ago. This weekend the boys came for a visit with us and my mom who they call Grandma Jean. Perfect opportunity for some more footprints! After dinner and a movie on Friday night and a breakfast of pancakes the next morning we were ready to mix up some concrete! We start by digging out some holes to pour the concrete in. I wanted footprints to look like rocks instead of perfectly formed "boxes" that they stuck their feet in. The older prints are in the foreground of this photo with new holes dug out in the background. I'll move the new footprints after they set up and place them along one of the garden pathways.

A dried leaf, magnifying glass and some sunshine provided a distraction while we did the prep work. What little boy hasn't tried to burn holes in a dried leaf? When the time came to help mix concrete the boys were all in! So at last I have new footprints in my garden.

MY GARDEN IN MAY

A dragon fly flutters by
Lavender in bloom
Whispers softly to sunrise and the fading moon
MGarden glistens in the early hours with dew upon her skin
Serenaded by the sparrow's sweetly whistled whim
Ladybugs are feasting on aphids as they rise
While the cardinal and his soul mate watch a chipmunk scurry by
The daffodils are gone now as the roses linger on
The promise of a new day has only just begun
Little footprints in my garden bring a smile to my face
Footprints on my heart that will never be erased
A promise of a new bloom if only for today
Promises new life that will never fade away
My garden whispers softly,
"Come sit awhile, come stay"

Let me also mention that the lilies that were about to bloom a few weeks ago are now in full bloom thanks to the deer repellent spray! The doe that I am sure is responsible for eating almost all of the hosta has wandered into the garden twice since we sprayed. She sniffs a few plants and keeps on walking, never stopping! It's a good thing! The daisies are nearly gone but the day  lilies and lavender are in full bloom with buds yet to open on the Oriental Lilies. The garden changes month to month, winter comes and then we start all over again!
